Is it wrong to be gay in Islam?
A gay man is known and held by the God who made him; the Qur’an says of every human being, “we are closer to him than his jugular vein” [Qur’an 50:16]. God’s mercy already reaches you as you are: “my mercy encompasses all things” [Qur’an 7:156]. You also have a place among the believers, whom the Qur’an calls “protectors of one another” [Qur’an 9:71], so care and companionship within your community are yours by right. The way you were made carries no charge against you, because “no bearer of burdens bears the burden of another” [Qur’an 6:164]. And when you bring Him your life and your longing for a companion, His answer is already given: “indeed, I am near. I answer the call of the one who calls when they call on me” [Qur’an 2:186].
