Surah Al-Qiyamah — القيامة

Chapter 75 of the Qur'an · “The Resurrection” · 40 verses · revealed in Makkah

1. 75:1 لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ By the Day of Resurrection
2. 75:2 وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ and by the self-reproaching soul!
3. 75:3 أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ Does man think We shall not put his bones back together?
4. 75:4 بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ In fact, We can reshape his very fingertips.
5. 75:5 بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ Yet man wants to deny what is ahead of him:
6. 75:6 يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ he says, ‘So, when will this Day of Resurrection be?’
7. 75:7 فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ When eyes are dazzled
8. 75:8 وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ and the moon eclipsed,
9. 75:9 وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ when the sun and the moon are brought together,
10. 75:10 يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ on that Day man will say, ‘Where can I escape?’
11. 75:11 كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ Truly, there is no refuge:
12. 75:12 إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ they will all return to your Lord on that Day.
13. 75:13 يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ On that Day, man will be told what he put first and what he put last.
14. 75:14 بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌ Truly, man is a clear witness against himself,
15. 75:15 وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ despite all the excuses he may put forward.
16. 75:16 لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ [Prophet], do not rush your tongue in an attempt to hasten [your memorization of] the Revelation:
17. 75:17 إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ We shall make sure of its safe collection and recitation.
18. 75:18 فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ When We have recited it, repeat the recitation
19. 75:19 ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ and We shall make it clear.
20. 75:20 كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ Truly you [people] love this fleeting world
21. 75:21 وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ and neglect the life to come.
22. 75:22 وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ On that Day there will be radiant faces,
23. 75:23 إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ looking towards their Lord,
24. 75:24 وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ and on that Day there will be the sad and despairing faces
25. 75:25 تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ of those who realize that a great calamity is about to befall them.
26. 75:26 كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ Truly, when the soul reaches the collarbone;
27. 75:27 وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ when it is said, ‘Could any charm-healer save him now?’;
28. 75:28 وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ when he knows it is the final parting;
29. 75:29 وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ when his legs are brought together:
30. 75:30 إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ on that day he will be driven towards your Lord.
31. 75:31 فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ He neither believed nor prayed,
32. 75:32 وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ but denied the truth and turned away,
33. 75:33 ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ walking back to his people with a conceited swagger.
34. 75:34 أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ Closer and closer it comes to you.
35. 75:35 ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ Closer and closer still.
36. 75:36 أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى Does man think he will be left alone?
37. 75:37 أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِىٍّ يُمْنَىٰ Was he not just a drop of spilt-out sperm,
38. 75:38 ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ which became a clinging form, which God shaped in due proportion,
39. 75:39 فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ fashioning from it the two sexes, male and female?
40. 75:40 أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْـِۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ Does He who can do this not have the power to bring the dead back to life?
