What are they asking one another about?
About the momentous news
  3. 78:3 ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ the one about which they differ.
No — they will come to know.
Again, no — they will come to know.
Did we not make the earth a cradle,
  7. 78:7 وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا and the mountains as stakes?
And we created you in pairs,
  9. 78:9 وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا and made your sleep a rest,
  10. 78:10 وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا and made the night a covering,
  11. 78:11 وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا and made the day for livelihood,
And we built above you seven mighty heavens,
  13. 78:13 وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا and we made a blazing lamp,
  14. 78:14 وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا and we sent down from the rain-laden clouds water pouring forth,
  15. 78:15 لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا to bring forth with it grain and vegetation,
  16. 78:16 وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا and lush, interwoven gardens?
Indeed, the day of decision is an appointed time —
  18. 78:18 يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا the day the trumpet is blown and you come forth in throngs,
  19. 78:19 وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا and the sky is opened and becomes gateways,
  20. 78:20 وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا and the mountains will be set in motion, becoming a mirage.
Indeed, jahannam lies in wait,
  22. 78:22 لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا a destination for the transgressors,
  23. 78:23 لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا remaining there for ages.
  24. 78:24 لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا tasting there neither coolness nor any drink
  25. 78:25 إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا only scalding water and dark, festering discharge —
  26. 78:26 جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا a fitting recompense,
They never expected a reckoning,
  28. 78:28 وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا and they denied our signs, utterly denied them.
And everything we have recorded in a book.
So taste — we will increase you in nothing but torment.
Indeed, for those mindful of God there is triumph:
  32. 78:32 حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًا walled gardens and vineyards,
  33. 78:33 وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا and well-matched companions of blossoming youth,
  34. 78:34 وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا and a cup filled to the brim.
There they will hear no idle talk, no lies —
  36. 78:36 جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا a reward from your Lord, a gift well-measured,
  37. 78:37 رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, the Most Merciful — none will have power to address him.
On the day when the Spirit and the angels stand in ranks, none will speak except those whom the Most Merciful has permitted, and they will say only what is right.
That is the day of truth. Whoever wills, let them take a way back to their Lord.
Indeed, we have warned you of a punishment drawing near — a day when each person will look upon what their own hands have sent ahead, and the one who denied will say, "If only I were dust!"
