79:8قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌhearts that day will tremble,
79:9أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌtheir eyes downcast in awe.
They say, "Will we really be returned to our former state?
79:11أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا نَّخِرَةًeven when we are crumbling bones?"
They say, "That, then, would be a return at a loss."
It will be but a single cry,
79:14فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِand at once they will be awake upon the earth's surface.
Has the story of Musa reached you?
79:16إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًىwhen his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:
Go to Pharaoh — he has transgressed all bounds.
And say: would you be willing to purify yourself?
79:19وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰand that I guide you to your Lord, so you would stand in awe?'"
So Musa showed him the greatest sign,
But he denied and disobeyed.
Then he turned away, scheming.
Then he gathered them and called out,
79:24فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰand said, "I am your lord, the most high."
So God seized him as an example, in the next life and the first.
Surely in this is a lesson for whoever stands in awe.
Are you harder to create, or the sky that he built?
79:28رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَاraising its vault high and ordering it perfectly,
79:29وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَاand darkened its night and brought forth its morning light,
79:30وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآand after that he spread out the earth,
79:31أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَاbringing forth from it its water and its pastures,
79:32وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَاand the mountains, he set them firm,
79:33مَتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْas provision for you and for your livestock.
But when the great overwhelming calamity comes,
79:35يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰthe day when the human being will remember all that he strove for,
79:36وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰand jahim is brought into view for all who see,
As for the one who transgressed
79:38وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَاand preferred the life of this world,
79:39فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰjahim will be the refuge.
But as for the one who feared standing before his Lord and restrained the lower self from its cravings,
79:41فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰthe garden will be the refuge.
They ask you about the hour: when will it arrive?
What would you know to tell them of it?
Its final term rests with your Lord.
You are only a warner to those who fear it.
On the day they see it, it will seem they lingered no more than an evening or the morning that follows.
