Surah Al-Qiyamah — القيامة

Chapter 75 of the Qur'an · “The Resurrection” · 40 verses · revealed in Makkah

1. 75:1 لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ I swear by the day of resurrection.
2. 75:2 وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ And I swear by the self-reproaching self.
3. 75:3 أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ Does the human being suppose that we will not gather his bones together?
4. 75:4 بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ Yes indeed — we are able to shape even his fingertips.
5. 75:5 بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ Yet the human being wants to go on sinning in the time ahead of him,
6. 75:6 يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ asking, "When is the day of resurrection?"
7. 75:7 فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ When sight is dazzled,
8. 75:8 وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ and the moon is eclipsed,
9. 75:9 وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ and the sun and the moon are brought together,
10. 75:10 يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ On that day the human will say, "Where is the escape?"
11. 75:11 كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ No! There is no refuge.
12. 75:12 إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ to your Lord, on that day, is the final resting place.
13. 75:13 يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ On that day, the human being will be told of what he sent ahead and what he left behind.
14. 75:14 بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌ Indeed, the human being is a witness against himself,
15. 75:15 وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ even as he offers up his excuses.
16. 75:16 لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it.
17. 75:17 إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ Indeed, its gathering and its recitation are upon us.
18. 75:18 فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ So when we have recited it, follow its recitation.
19. 75:19 ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ Then upon us is its clarification.
20. 75:20 كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ No — you love what passes quickly,
21. 75:21 وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ and neglect the hereafter.
22. 75:22 وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ On that day, faces will be radiant,
23. 75:23 إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ gazing upon their Lord,
24. 75:24 وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ and on that day other faces will be darkened,
25. 75:25 تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ knowing that a crushing blow is about to fall upon them.
26. 75:26 كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ No! When it reaches the collarbones,
27. 75:27 وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ and it is said, "Who can heal him?"
28. 75:28 وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ and he knows it is the parting,
29. 75:29 وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ and leg is entwined with leg,
30. 75:30 إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ to your Lord, on that day, is the driving onward.
31. 75:31 فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ He neither affirmed the truth nor prayed,
32. 75:32 وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ but he denied and turned away,
33. 75:33 ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ then went off to his people, swaggering.
34. 75:34 أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ Woe to you, and woe!
35. 75:35 ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ Then woe to you, and woe again.
36. 75:36 أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى Does the human being think he will be left without purpose?
37. 75:37 أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِىٍّ يُمْنَىٰ Was he not a drop of emitted semen,
38. 75:38 ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ then a clinging clot, which God shaped and proportioned,
39. 75:39 فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ and from it made the two mates, the male and the female?
40. 75:40 أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْـِۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ Is the one who does all this not able to bring the dead back to life?
