Chapter 37 of the Qur'an · “Those who set the Ranks” · 182 verses · revealed in Makkah
37:1 وَٱلصَّـٰٓفَّـٰتِ صَفًّاBy those ranged in ranks,
37:2فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجْرًاand by those who drive forth with force,
37:3فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًاand by those who recite the remembrance,
37:4إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمْ لَوَٰحِدٌindeed, your God is One,
37:5رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِLord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, Lord of every sunrise.
37:6إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلْكَوَاكِبِIndeed, we have adorned the nearest heaven with the beauty of the stars,
37:7وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ مَّارِدٍand as a guard against every rebellious devil,
37:8لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍbarred from listening in on the highest assembly, pelted from every side,
37:9دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌdriven away, and for them is a lasting torment —
37:10إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ ٱلْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌexcept for the one who snatches a fragment — and a piercing flame pursues him.
37:11فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍۭSo ask them: are they harder to create, or the others we have created? Indeed, we created them from sticky clay.
37:12بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَIndeed, you marvel, while they mock,
37:13وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا يَذْكُرُونَand when they are reminded, they pay no heed,
37:14وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَand when they see a sign, they mock it,
37:15وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌand they say, "This is nothing but plain sorcery.
37:16أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَWhen we are dead and have become dust and bones, will we really be raised up again?
37:17أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَAnd our forefathers of old as well?"
37:18قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَٰخِرُونَSay, "Yes — and you will be brought low."
37:19فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَIt will be but a single cry, and at once they will see.
37:20وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِAnd they will say, "Woe to us! This is the day of reckoning."
37:21هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَThis is the day of decision, the one you used to deny.
37:22۞ ٱحْشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَGather those who did wrong, along with their companions and what they used to worship
37:23مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْجَحِيمِbesides God, and lead them to the path of jahīm.
37:24وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْـُٔولُونَAnd stop them — they are to be questioned.
37:25مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَWhat is wrong with you? Why do you not help one another?
37:26بَلْ هُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَNo — today they surrender completely.
37:27وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَAnd they turn to one another, asking questions.
37:28قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِThey will say, "You used to come at us from the right."
37:29قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَThey will reply, "No — you yourselves were not believers.
37:30وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَـٰنٍۭ ۖ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَـٰغِينَWe had no authority over you — you yourselves were a people who transgressed.
37:31فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَآ ۖ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَSo the word of our Lord has come true against us; we are surely going to taste it.
37:32فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِينَSo we led you astray — indeed, we ourselves were astray.
37:33فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَSo on that day they will all share in the torment.
37:34إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَIndeed, this is how we deal with the guilty.
37:35إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَWhenever they were told, 'There is no god but God,' they grew arrogant,
37:36وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍۭand said, "Are we to abandon our gods for a mad poet?"
37:37بَلْ جَآءَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَNo — he came with the truth and confirmed the messengers.
37:38إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَلِيمِYou will surely taste the painful punishment,
37:39وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَand you will be repaid only for what you used to do —
37:40إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَBut not the sincere servants of God.
37:41أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌFor them there is a known provision —
37:42فَوَٰكِهُ ۖ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَfruits — and they will be honored.
37:43فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِin gardens of delight,
37:44عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَon couches, facing one another,
37:45يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍۭA cup from a flowing spring is passed around among them,
37:46بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَwhite, a delight to those who drink it,
37:47لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَcausing no harm, nor will they be made drunk by it.
37:48وَعِندَهُمْ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ عِينٌAnd with them are companions of modest gaze, with beautiful eyes,
37:49كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَّكْنُونٌas if they were sheltered eggs, kept safe.
37:50فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَThen they will turn to one another, asking questions.
37:51قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّى كَانَ لِى قَرِينٌOne of them will say, "I once had a companion
37:52يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَwho used to say, 'Are you really one of those who affirm the truth?
37:53أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَWhen we have died and become dust and bones, will we really be called to account?'"
37:54قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَHe will say, 'Would you like to look?'
37:55فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِى سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِThen he will look down and see him in the midst of jahīm.
37:56قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِHe will say, "By God, you nearly brought me to ruin.
37:57وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَWere it not for the grace of my Lord, I too would have been among those brought forth.
37:58أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَAre we then not to die,
37:59إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَexcept for our first death? And will we not be punished?
37:60إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُTruly, this is the supreme triumph.
37:61لِمِثْلِ هَـٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ ٱلْعَـٰمِلُونَFor the like of this, let the workers work.
37:62أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِIs that the better welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum?
37:63إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَIndeed, we have made it a trial for the wrongdoers.
37:64إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِىٓ أَصْلِ ٱلْجَحِيمِIt is a tree that grows from the depths of jahīm,
37:65طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِits fruit like the heads of devils.
37:66فَإِنَّهُمْ لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَThey will eat from it and fill their bellies with it.
37:67ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍThen on top of it they will have a draught mixed with scalding water.
37:68ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى ٱلْجَحِيمِThen their return is to jahīm.
37:69إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَIndeed, they found their fathers astray,
37:70فَهُمْ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَand they rushed to follow in their footsteps.
37:71وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَAnd most of those who came before them had already gone astray,
37:72وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَAnd we had sent warners among them.
37:73فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَSo see what became of those who were warned —
37:74إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَBut not the sincere servants of God.
37:75وَلَقَدْ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَAnd Nuh called out to us, and how excellent was our response.
37:76وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِAnd we delivered him and his family from the great distress,
37:77وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلْبَاقِينَAnd we made his descendants the ones who endured.
37:78وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَAnd we left for him a lasting remembrance among later generations:
37:79سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَPeace be upon Nuh among all the worlds.
37:80إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَIndeed, this is how we reward those who do good.
37:81إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَIndeed, he was among our believing servants.
37:82ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَThen we drowned the others.
37:83۞ وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَAnd indeed, among those who followed his way was Ibrahim.
37:84إِذْ جَآءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍwhen he came to his Lord with a sound heart.
37:85إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَWhen he said to his father and his people, "What is it you worship?
37:86أَئِفْكًا ءَالِهَةً دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَIs it falsehood — gods other than God — that you desire?
37:87فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَSo what do you think of the Lord of all the worlds?
37:88فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِى ٱلنُّجُومِThen he cast a glance at the stars
37:89فَقَالَ إِنِّى سَقِيمٌand he said, "I am unwell."
37:90فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَSo they turned their backs on him and walked away.
37:91فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَThen he turned to their gods and said, "Will you not eat?
37:92مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَWhat is wrong with you that you do not speak?
37:93فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًۢا بِٱلْيَمِينِThen he turned on them, striking with his right hand.
37:94فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَThen they came rushing toward him.
37:95قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَHe said, "Do you worship what you carve with your own hands,
37:96وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَwhen God created you and all that you make?
37:97قَالُوا۟ ٱبْنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنْيَـٰنًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِى ٱلْجَحِيمِThey said, "Build a structure for him and hurl him into jahīm."
37:98فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَThey plotted against him, but we brought them low.
37:99وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِAnd he said, "I am going to my Lord; he will guide me.
37:100رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَMy Lord, grant me one of the righteous.
37:101فَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِيمٍSo we gave him good news of a forbearing son.
37:102فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعْىَ قَالَ يَـٰبُنَىَّ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ فِى ٱلْمَنَامِ أَنِّىٓ أَذْبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَAnd when the boy was old enough to work alongside him, he said, "My son, I have seen in a dream that I am sacrificing you. So tell me, what do you think?" He said, "Father, do as you are commanded. God willing, you will find me among those who are patient."
37:103فَلَمَّآ أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلْجَبِينِWhen they had both surrendered, and he had laid him down upon his forehead,
37:104وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ أَن يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُAnd we called out to him, "Ibrahim,
37:105قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ ٱلرُّءْيَآ ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَyou have fulfilled the vision.' This is how we reward those who do good —
37:106إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْبَلَـٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْمُبِينُIndeed, this was the clear trial.
37:107وَفَدَيْنَـٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍAnd we ransomed him with a great sacrifice,
37:108وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَAnd we left for him a lasting remembrance among later generations:
37:109سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَPeace be upon Ibrahim.
37:110كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَThus we reward those who do good.
37:111إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَIndeed, he was among our believing servants.
37:112وَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِإِسْحَـٰقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَAnd we gave him glad tidings of Ishaq, a prophet from among the righteous.
37:113وَبَـٰرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِۦ مُبِينٌAnd we blessed him and Ishaq. Among their descendants are those who do good and those who clearly wrong their own selves.
37:114وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَAnd we surely bestowed our favor upon Musa and Harun,
37:115وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِAnd we delivered them and their people from the great distress,
37:116وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُمْ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَAnd we aided them, so they were the ones who prevailed.
37:117وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَAnd we gave them the clear scripture,
37:118وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَAnd we guided them to the straight path,
37:119وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَAnd we left for them a lasting honor among later generations:
37:120سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَPeace be upon Musa and Harun.
37:121إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَIndeed, this is how we reward those who do good.
37:122إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَIndeed, they were among our believing servants.
37:123وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَAnd Ilyas was indeed one of the messengers.
37:124إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَWhen he said to his people, "Will you not be mindful of God?"
37:125أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَDo you call upon Baal and forsake the best of creators —
37:126ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَGod, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of old?
37:127فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَBut they denied him, so they will surely be brought forth for punishment —
37:128إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَBut not the sincere servants of God.
37:129وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَAnd we left for him a lasting remembrance among later generations:
37:130سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَPeace be upon Ilyas.
37:131إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَIndeed, this is how we reward those who do good.
37:132إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَIndeed, he was among our believing servants.
37:133وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَAnd Lut was indeed among the messengers.
37:134إِذْ نَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَwhen we saved him and all his family,
37:135إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِى ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَexcept an old woman among those who stayed behind.
37:136ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَThen we destroyed the others.
37:137وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَAnd indeed, you pass by them in the morning,
37:138وَبِٱلَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَand by night. Will you not use reason?
37:139وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَAnd indeed, Yunus was among the messengers.
37:140إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِWhen he fled to the laden ship,
37:141فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَHe cast lots and was among the losers,
37:142فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ ٱلْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌSo the fish swallowed him, for he was to blame.
37:143فَلَوْلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَHad he not been among those who glorify God,
37:144لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطْنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَhe would have remained in its belly until the day they are raised.
37:145۞ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌSo we cast him onto the barren shore, and he was sick,
37:146وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍAnd we caused a gourd tree to grow over him.
37:147وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَAnd we sent him to a hundred thousand or more.
37:148فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍAnd they believed, so we let them enjoy life for a time.
37:149فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَSo ask them: does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?
37:150أَمْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَـٰثًا وَهُمْ شَـٰهِدُونَOr did we create the angels as females while they looked on?
37:151أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَNo indeed — it is from their own fabrication that they say,
37:152وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ"God has begotten" — they are surely liars.
37:153أَصْطَفَى ٱلْبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلْبَنِينَHas God chosen daughters over sons?
37:154مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَWhat is the matter with you? How do you judge?
37:155أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَWill you not then take heed?
37:156أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ مُّبِينٌOr do you have clear authority?
37:157فَأْتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَThen bring your scripture, if you are truthful.
37:158وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَيْنَهُۥ وَبَيْنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا ۚ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ ٱلْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَThey have invented a kinship between him and the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know they will be brought forth for judgment.
37:159سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَGlory be to God, far above what they ascribe to him —
37:160إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَBut not the sincere servants of God.
37:161فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَSo neither you nor what you worship
37:162مَآ أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَـٰتِنِينَyou cannot lure anyone away from him,
37:163إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلْجَحِيمِexcept those who are bound to burn in jahim.
37:164وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامٌ مَّعْلُومٌThere is none among us without an appointed station.
37:165وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَAnd indeed, we are the ones who stand in ranks.
37:166وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْمُسَبِّحُونَAnd indeed, we are the ones who glorify him.
37:167وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَيَقُولُونَAnd indeed, they used to say,
37:168لَوْ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكْرًا مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ"If only we had a reminder from those of old,
37:169لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَwe would be the sincere servants of God.
37:170فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَYet they denied it — soon they will know.
37:171وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَAnd our word has already gone forth to our servants, the messengers:
37:172إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَنصُورُونَthey are the ones who will be helped to victory,
37:173وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَand that our forces will surely be the victors.
37:174فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍSo turn away from them for a time,
37:175وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَAnd watch them — soon they will see.
37:176أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَDo they seek to hasten our punishment?
37:177فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَBut when it descends upon their courtyard, how wretched will be the morning of those who were warned.
37:178وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍAnd turn away from them for a time.
37:179وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَAnd watch — they will soon see.
37:180سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَGlory be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, far above what they ascribe to him.
37:181وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَAnd peace be upon the messengers.
37:182وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَAnd praise belongs to God, Lord of all the worlds.
