51:11ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍ سَاهُونَthose steeped in error and unaware!
51:12يَسْـَٔلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِThey ask, ‘When is this Judgement Day coming?’
51:13يَوْمَ هُمْ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ يُفْتَنُونَOn a Day when they will be punished by the Fire,
51:14ذُوقُوا۟ فِتْنَتَكُمْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ‘Taste the punishment! This is what you wished to hasten.’
51:15إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍThe righteous will be in Gardens with [flowing] springs.
51:16ءَاخِذِينَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحْسِنِينَThey will receive their Lord’s gifts because of the good they did before:
51:17كَانُوا۟ قَلِيلًا مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَsleeping only little at night,
51:18وَبِٱلْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَpraying at dawn for God’s forgiveness,
51:19وَفِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِgiving a rightful share of their wealth to the beggar and the deprived.
51:20وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ءَايَـٰتٌ لِّلْمُوقِنِينَOn earth there are signs for those with sure faith––
51:21وَفِىٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَand in yourselves too, do you not see?––
51:22وَفِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقُكُمْ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَin the sky is your sustenance and all that you are promised.
51:23فَوَرَبِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقٌّ مِّثْلَ مَآ أَنَّكُمْ تَنطِقُونَBy the Lord of the heavens and earth! All this is as real as your speaking.
51:24هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ[Muhammad], have you heard the story of the honoured guests of Abraham?
51:25إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمًا ۖ قَالَ سَلَـٰمٌ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَThey went in to see him and said, ‘Peace.’ ‘Peace,’ he said, [adding to himself] ‘These people are strangers.’
51:26فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ فَجَآءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍHe turned quickly to his household, brought out a fat calf,
51:27فَقَرَّبَهُۥٓ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَand placed it before them. ‘Will you not eat?’ he said,
51:28فَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِيمٍbeginning to be afraid of them, but they said, ‘Do not be afraid.’ They gave him good news of a son who would be gifted with knowledge.
51:29فَأَقْبَلَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ فِى صَرَّةٍ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٌHis wife then entered with a loud cry, struck her face, and said, ‘A barren old woman?’
51:30قَالُوا۟ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٱلْعَلِيمُbut they said, ‘It will be so. This is what your Lord said, and He is the Wise, the All Knowing.’
51:31۞ قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَAbraham said, ‘What is your errand, messengers?’
51:32قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَThey said, ‘We are sent to a people lost in sin,
51:33لِنُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن طِينٍto bring down rocks of clay,
51:34مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَmarked by your Lord for those who exceed all bounds.’
51:35فَأَخْرَجْنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَWe brought out such believers as were there-
51:36فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍ مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَWe found only one household devoted to God-
51:37وَتَرَكْنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَةً لِّلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَand left the town to be a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.
51:38وَفِى مُوسَىٰٓ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍThere is another sign in Moses: We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority.
51:39فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِۦ وَقَالَ سَـٰحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌPharaoh turned away with his supporters, saying, ‘This is a sorcerer, or maybe a madman,’
51:40فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌso We seized him and his forces and threw them into the sea: he was to blame.
51:41وَفِى عَادٍ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلرِّيحَ ٱلْعَقِيمَThere is another sign in the Ad: We sent the life-destroying wind against them
51:42مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَىْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتْهُ كَٱلرَّمِيمِand it reduced everything it came up against to shreds.
51:43وَفِى ثَمُودَ إِذْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍAnd also in the Thamud: it was said to them, ‘Make the most of your lives for a while,’
51:44فَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَbut they rebelled against their Lord’s command, so the blast took them. They looked on helplessly:
51:45فَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مِن قِيَامٍ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنتَصِرِينَthey could not even remain standing, let alone defend themselves.
51:46وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا فَـٰسِقِينَBefore that We destroyed the people of Noah. They were a truly sinful people!
51:47وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بَنَيْنَـٰهَا بِأَيْي۟دٍ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَWe built the heavens with Our power and made them vast,
51:48وَٱلْأَرْضَ فَرَشْنَـٰهَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْمَـٰهِدُونَWe spread out the earth- how well We smoothed it out!-
51:49وَمِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَand We created pairs of all things so that you [people] might take note.
51:50فَفِرُّوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ[So, say to them, Prophet], ‘Quickly, turn to God- I am sent by Him to give you clear warning-
51:51وَلَا تَجْعَلُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌand do not set up any other god alongside Him. I am sent by Him to give you clear warning!’
51:52كَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَتَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا۟ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌEvery previous people to whom a messenger was sent also said, ‘A sor-cerer, or maybe a madman!’
51:53أَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِهِۦ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَDid they tell one another to do this? No! They are a people who exceed all bounds,
51:54فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِمَلُومٍso ignore them [Prophet]- you are not to blame-
51:55وَذَكِّرْ فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَand go on reminding [people], it is good for those who believe to be reminded.
51:56وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِI created jinn and mankind only to worship Me:
51:57مَآ أُرِيدُ مِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٍ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَن يُطْعِمُونِI want no provision from them, nor do I want them to feed Me-
51:58إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْمَتِينُGod is the Provider, the Lord of Power, the Ever Mighty.
51:59فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذَنُوبًا مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَـٰبِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِThe evildoers, like their predecessors, will have a share of punishment- they need not ask Me to hasten it-
51:60فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن يَوْمِهِمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَand woe betide those who deny the truth on the Day they have been promised.
