وَفِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقُكُمْ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ
Wa fissamaaa'i rizqukum wa maa too'adoon
in the sky is your sustenance and all that you are promised.
And in the heaven is your sustenance, and all that you are promised.
Provision and promise are named in a single breath here, both located above: the food that arrives this week and the reckoning that arrives at the end come from the same place. Commentators generally read the sustenance as rain, the mechanism behind every crop and herd, and some also took it as the decree recorded before it falls. The passage has just pointed to the earth and to the self, so the sky completes a sweep outward.
