Surah Al-A'la — الأعلى

Chapter 87 of the Qur'an · “The Most High” · 19 verses · revealed in Makkah

1. 87:1 سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High,
2. 87:2 ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ who created and shaped in due measure,
3. 87:3 وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ who measured out and guided,
4. 87:4 وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ and who brought forth the pasture,
5. 87:5 فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ then turned it to darkened stubble.
6. 87:6 سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ And we will make you recite, and you will not forget —
7. 87:7 إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ except what God wills — indeed, he knows what is open and what is hidden.
8. 87:8 وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ And we will ease you toward the path of ease.
9. 87:9 فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ So remind, if the reminder benefits.
10. 87:10 سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ Whoever stands in awe of God will take heed,
11. 87:11 وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى but the most wretched will turn away from it,
12. 87:12 ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ the one who will burn in the greatest fire,
13. 87:13 ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ where he will neither die nor live.
14. 87:14 قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ Truly successful are those who purify themselves,
15. 87:15 وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ and remembers the name of his Lord and prays.
16. 87:16 بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا But you prefer the life of this world,
17. 87:17 وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ yet the hereafter is better and more lasting.
18. 87:18 إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَفِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ Indeed, this is in the earlier scriptures,
19. 87:19 صُحُفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ the scriptures of Ibrahim and Musa.
