Surah At-Tariq — الطارق

Chapter 86 of the Qur'an · “The Nightcommer” · 17 verses · revealed in Makkah

1. 86:1 وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ By the sky and the night-visitor —
2. 86:2 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ And what will make you understand what the night-visitor is?
3. 86:3 ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ the piercing star—
4. 86:4 إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ There is no soul without a guardian watching over it.
5. 86:5 فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ So let the human being consider what he was created from.
6. 86:6 خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍ Created from a gushing fluid,
7. 86:7 يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ issuing from between the backbone and the ribs.
8. 86:8 إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌ Indeed, he is able to bring him back.
9. 86:9 يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ on the day when secrets are tested
10. 86:10 فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ he will have no strength and no helper.
11. 86:11 وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ By the sky that returns its rain,
12. 86:12 وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ and by the earth that splits open,
13. 86:13 إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ Indeed, this is a decisive word,
14. 86:14 وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ and it is no jest.
15. 86:15 إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا Indeed, they are scheming a scheme,
16. 86:16 وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا and I too devise a plan.
17. 86:17 فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا So give the deniers respite; let them be for a little while.
