Surah At-Takwir — التكوير

Chapter 81 of the Qur'an · “The Overthrowing” · 29 verses · revealed in Makkah

  1. 81:1 إِذَا ٱلشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ When the sun is folded up,
  2. 81:2 وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتْ and when the stars fall and scatter,
  3. 81:3 وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ when the mountains are set moving,
  4. 81:4 وَإِذَا ٱلْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ when the pregnant camels are left untended,
  5. 81:5 وَإِذَا ٱلْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ and when the wild beasts are gathered together,
  6. 81:6 وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ and when the seas are set ablaze,
  7. 81:7 وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ and when the souls are paired,
  8. 81:8 وَإِذَا ٱلْمَوْءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتْ and when the infant girl buried alive is asked
  9. 81:9 بِأَىِّ ذَنۢبٍ قُتِلَتْ for what sin she was killed,
  10. 81:10 وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ and when the scrolls are laid open,
  11. 81:11 وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتْ and when the sky is stripped away,
  12. 81:12 وَإِذَا ٱلْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ and when jahim is set ablaze,
  13. 81:13 وَإِذَا ٱلْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ and when the garden is brought near,
  14. 81:14 عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّآ أَحْضَرَتْ every soul will know what it has brought forth.
  15. 81:15 فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلْخُنَّسِ I swear by the receding stars,
  16. 81:16 ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْكُنَّسِ that course and vanish,
  17. 81:17 وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ and by the night as it draws in,
  18. 81:18 وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ and by the dawn as it breathes,
  19. 81:19 إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ indeed, this is the speech of a noble messenger,
  20. 81:20 ذِى قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِى ٱلْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ possessing strength, secure in standing before the Lord of the Throne,
  21. 81:21 مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ obeyed there, and trustworthy.
  22. 81:22 وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ And your companion is not mad.
  23. 81:23 وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْمُبِينِ And indeed he saw him on the clear horizon.
  24. 81:24 وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ And he withholds nothing of the unseen.
  25. 81:25 وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَـٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ Nor is this the word of an accursed devil.
  26. 81:26 فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ So where are you going?
  27. 81:27 إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ This is nothing but a reminder for all the worlds.
  28. 81:28 لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ for whoever among you wills to walk straight.
  29. 81:29 وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ Yet you cannot will it unless God wills — the Lord of all the worlds.
