Surah Al-Qari'ah — القارعة

Chapter 101 of the Qur'an · “The Calamity” · 11 verses · revealed in Makkah

1. 101:1 ٱلْقَارِعَةُ The striking blow!
2. 101:2 مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ What is the striking blow?
3. 101:3 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ And what will make you grasp what the striking calamity is?
4. 101:4 يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ On the day when people will be like scattered moths,
5. 101:5 وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ and the mountains like fluffs of carded wool.
6. 101:6 فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ Then the one whose scales weigh heavy
7. 101:7 فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ and so he will be in a life of contentment,
8. 101:8 وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ But as for the one whose scales are light,
9. 101:9 فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌ his refuge will be the abyss—
10. 101:10 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ And what will make you know what it is?
11. 101:11 نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌۢ a blazing fire.
