Surah An-Nazi'at — النازعات

Chapter 79 of the Qur'an · “Those who drag forth” · 46 verses · revealed in Makkah

1. 79:1 وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًا By the forceful chargers
2. 79:2 وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِ نَشْطًا raring to go,
3. 79:3 وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِ سَبْحًا sweeping ahead at full stretch,
4. 79:4 فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِ سَبْقًا overtaking swiftly
5. 79:5 فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا to bring the matter to an end,
6. 79:6 يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ on the Day when the blast reverberates
7. 79:7 تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ and the second blast follows,
8. 79:8 قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ hearts will tremble
9. 79:9 أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌ and eyes will be downcast.
10. 79:10 يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ They say, ‘What? shall we be brought back to life,
11. 79:11 أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا نَّخِرَةً after we have turned into decayed bones?’ and they say,
12. 79:12 قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ ‘Such a return is impossible!’
13. 79:13 فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ But all it will take is a single blast,
14. 79:14 فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ and they will be back above ground.
15. 79:15 هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ Have you [Prophet] heard the story of Moses?
16. 79:16 إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى His Lord called out to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:
17. 79:17 ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ ‘Go to Pharaoh, for he has exceeded all bounds,
18. 79:18 فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ and ask him, “Do you want to purify yourself [of sin]?
19. 79:19 وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ Do you want me to guide you to your Lord, so that you may hold Him in awe?” ’
20. 79:20 فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ Moses showed him the great sign,
21. 79:21 فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ but he denied it and refused [the faith].
22. 79:22 ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ He turned away and hastily
23. 79:23 فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ gathered his people, proclaiming,
24. 79:24 فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ ‘I am your supreme lord,’
25. 79:25 فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ so God condemned him to punishment in the life to come as well as in this life:
26. 79:26 إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ there truly is a lesson in this for anyone who stands in awe of God.
27. 79:27 ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ ۚ بَنَىٰهَا Which is harder to create: you people or the sky that He built,
28. 79:28 رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا raising it high and perfecting it,
29. 79:29 وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا giving darkness to its night and bringing out its morning brightness,
30. 79:30 وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ and the earth, too, He spread out,
31. 79:31 أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا bringing waters and pastures out of it,
32. 79:32 وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا and setting firm mountains [in it]
33. 79:33 مَتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ for you and your animals to enjoy?
34. 79:34 فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ When the great overwhelming event arrives
35. 79:35 يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ on the Day that man remembers what he has done
36. 79:36 وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ and Hell is there for all to see,
37. 79:37 فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ for anyone who has transgressed
38. 79:38 وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا and preferred the present life
39. 79:39 فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ Hell will be home;
40. 79:40 وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ for anyone who feared the meeting with his Lord and restrained himself from base desires,
41. 79:41 فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ Paradise will be home.
42. 79:42 يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا They ask you [Prophet] about the Hour,
43. 79:43 فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَآ saying, ‘When will it arrive?’, but how can you tell [them that]?
44. 79:44 إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ Its time is known only to your Lord;
45. 79:45 إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا you are only sent to warn those who fear it.
46. 79:46 كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا On the Day they see it, it will seem they lingered [in this life] an evening [at most,] or its morning.
