44:2وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِBy the Scripture that makes things clear,
44:3إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَtruly We sent it down on a blessed night––We have always sent warnings––
44:4فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍa night when every matter of wisdom was made distinct
44:5أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَat Our command––We have always sent messages to man––
44:6رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُas a mercy [Prophet] from your Lord who sees and knows all,
44:7رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَLord of the heavens and the earth and everything between––if only you people were firm believers––
44:8لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَthere is no god but Him: He gives life and death––He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers––
44:9بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَyet in [their state of] doubt they take nothing seriously.
44:10فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ[Prophet], watch out for the Day when the sky brings forth clouds of smoke for all to see.
44:11يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ ۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌIt will envelop the people. They will cry, ‘This is a terrible torment!
44:12رَّبَّنَا ٱكْشِفْ عَنَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَLord relieve us from this torment! We believe!’
44:13أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌHow will this [sudden] faith benefit them? When a prophet came to warn them plainly,
44:14ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌthey turned their backs on him, saying, ‘He is tutored! He is possessed!’
44:15إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَWe shall hold the torment back for a while ––you are sure to return [to Us]––
44:16يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ ٱلْبَطْشَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَand on the Day We seize [them] mightily We shall exact retribution.
44:17۞ وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌWe tested the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them,
44:18أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌsaying, ‘Hand the servants of God over to me! I am a faithful messenger who has been sent to you.
44:19وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍDo not consider yourselves to be above God! I come to you with clear authority.
44:20وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِI seek refuge in my Lord and yours against your insults!
44:21وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَٱعْتَزِلُونِIf you do not believe me, just let me be.’
44:22فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ[Moses] cried to his Lord, ‘These people are evildoers!’
44:23فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ[God replied], ‘Escape in the night with My servants, for you are sure to be pursued.
44:24وَٱتْرُكِ ٱلْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَLeave the sea behind you parted and their army will be drowned.’
44:25كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍMany a garden and spring they left behind,
44:26وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍmany a cornfield and noble building,
44:27وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهِينَmany a thing in which they had delighted:
44:28كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَWe gave these to another people to inherit.
44:29فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَNeither heavens nor earth shed a tear for them, nor were they given any time.
44:30وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِWe saved the Children of Israel from their degrading suffering
44:31مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَat the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds.
44:33وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَـٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌWe gave them revelations in which there was a clear test.
44:34إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَThese people here assert,
44:35إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ‘There is nothing beyond our one death: we will not be resurrected.
44:36فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَBring back our forefathers, if what you say is true.’
44:37أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَAre they better than the people of Tubba and those who flourished before them? We destroyed them all- they were guilty.
44:38وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَWe were not playing a pointless game when We created the heavens and earth and everything in between;
44:39مَا خَلَقْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَWe created them for a true purpose, but most people do not comprehend.
44:40إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ مِيقَـٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَThe Day of Decision is the time appointed for all;
44:41يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَa Day when no friend can take another’s place.
44:42إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُNo one will receive any help except for those to whom God shows mercy: He is the Mighty, the Merciful Lord.
44:47خُذُوهُ فَٱعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ‘Take him! Thrust him into the depths of Hell!
44:48ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱلْحَمِيمِPour scalding water over his head as punishment!’
44:49ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ‘Taste this, you powerful, respected man!
44:50إِنَّ هَـٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَThis is what you doubted.’
44:51إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍBut those mindful of God will be in a safe place
44:52فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍamid Gardens and springs,
44:53يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَclothed in silk and fine brocade, facing one another:
44:54كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍso it will be. We shall wed them to maidens with large, dark eyes.
44:55يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَSecure and contented, they will call for every kind of fruit.
44:56لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا ٱلْمَوْتَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِAfter the one death they will taste death no more. God will guard them from the torment of Hell,
44:57فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُa bounty from your Lord. That is the supreme triumph.
44:58فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَـٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَWe have made this Quran easy to understand- in your own language [Prophet]- so that they may take heed.
44:59فَٱرْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَSo wait; the disbelievers too are waiting.
