37:3فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًاand recite God’s word,
37:4إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمْ لَوَٰحِدٌtruly your God is One,
37:5رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِLord of the heavens and earth and everything between them, Lord of every sunrise.
37:6إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلْكَوَاكِبِWe have adorned the lowest heaven with stars,
37:7وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ مَّارِدٍand made them a safeguard against every rebellious devil:
37:8لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍthey cannot eavesdrop on the Higher Assembly––pelted from every side,
37:9دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌdriven away, they will have perpetual torment––
37:10إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ ٱلْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌif any [of them] stealthily snatches away a fragment, he will be pursued by a piercing flame.
37:11فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍۭSo [Prophet], ask the disbelievers: is it harder to create them than other beings We have created? We created them from sticky clay.
37:12بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَYou marvel as they scoff,
37:13وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا يَذْكُرُونَtake no heed when they are warned,
37:14وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَand resort to ridicule when they see a sign,
37:15وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌsaying, ‘This is no more than blatant sorcery.’
37:16أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ‘What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we really be raised up again,
37:17أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَalong with our forefathers?’
37:18قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَٰخِرُونَSay, ‘Yes indeed, and you will be humiliated.’
37:19فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَJust one blast and––lo and behold!––they will look
37:20وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِand say, ‘Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgement.’
37:21هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ[It will be said], ‘This is the Day of Decision, which you used to deny.
37:22۞ ٱحْشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ[Angels], gather together those who did wrong, and others like them, as well as whatever they worshipped
37:23مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْجَحِيمِbeside God, lead them all to the path of Hell,
37:24وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْـُٔولُونَand halt them for questioning:
37:25مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ“Why do you not support each other now?” ’––
37:26بَلْ هُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَno indeed! They will be in complete submission on that Day––
37:27وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَand they will turn on one another accusingly.
37:28قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِThey will say, ‘You came to us from a position of power.’
37:29قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَThey will say, ‘No! It was you who would not believe-
37:30وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَـٰنٍۭ ۖ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَـٰغِينَwe had no power over you- and you were already exceeding all limits.
37:31فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَآ ۖ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَOur Lord’s sentence on us is just and we must all taste the punishment.
37:32فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِينَWe led you astray as we ourselves were astray.’
37:33فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَOn that Day they will all share the torment:
37:34إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَthis is how We deal with the guilty.
37:35إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَWhenever it was said to them, ‘There is no deity but God,’ they became arrogant,
37:36وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍۭand said, ‘Are we to forsake our gods for a mad poet?’
37:37بَلْ جَآءَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ‘No: he brought the truth and confirmed the earlier messengers;
37:38إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَلِيمِyou will taste the painful torment,
37:39وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَand be repaid only according to your deeds.’
37:40إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَNot so God’s true servants.
37:41أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌThey will have familiar provisions––
37:42فَوَٰكِهُ ۖ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَfruits- and will be honoured
37:43فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِin gardens of delight;
37:44عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَseated on couches, facing one another.
37:45يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍۭA drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring:
37:46بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَwhite, delicious to those who taste it,
37:47لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَcausing no headiness or intoxication.
37:48وَعِندَهُمْ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ عِينٌWith them will be spouses- modest of gaze and beautiful of eye-
37:90فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَso [his people] turned away from him and left.
37:91فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَHe turned to their gods and said, ‘Do you not eat?
37:92مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَWhy do you not speak?’
37:93فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًۢا بِٱلْيَمِينِthen he turned and struck them with his right arm.
37:94فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَHis people hurried towards him,
37:95قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَbut he said, ‘How can you worship things you carve with your own hands,
37:96وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَwhen it is God who has created you and all your handiwork?’
37:97قَالُوا۟ ٱبْنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنْيَـٰنًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِى ٱلْجَحِيمِThey said, ‘Build a pyre and throw him into the blazing fire.’
37:98فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَThey wanted to harm him, but We humiliated them.
37:99وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِHe said, ‘I will go to my Lord: He is sure to guide me.
37:100رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَLord, grant me a righteous son,’
37:101فَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِيمٍso We gave him the good news that he would have a patient son.
37:102فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعْىَ قَالَ يَـٰبُنَىَّ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ فِى ٱلْمَنَامِ أَنِّىٓ أَذْبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَWhen the boy was old enough to work with his father, Abraham said, ‘My son, I have seen myself sacrificing you in a dream. What do you think?’ He said, ‘Father, do as you are commanded and, God willing, you will find me steadfast.’
37:103فَلَمَّآ أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلْجَبِينِWhen they had both submitted to God, and he had laid his son down on the side of his face,
37:104وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ أَن يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُWe called out to him, ‘Abraham,
37:105قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ ٱلرُّءْيَآ ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَyou have fulfilled the dream.’ This is how We reward those who do good-
37:106إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْبَلَـٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْمُبِينُit was a test to prove [their true characters]-
37:107وَفَدَيْنَـٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍWe ransomed his son with a momentous sacrifice,
37:108وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَand We let him be praised by succeeding generations:
37:109سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ‘Peace be upon Abraham!’
37:110كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَThis is how We reward those who do good:
37:111إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَtruly he was one of Our faithful servants.
37:112وَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِإِسْحَـٰقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَWe gave Abraham the good news of Isaac- a prophet and a righteous man-
37:113وَبَـٰرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِۦ مُبِينٌand blessed him and Isaac too: some of their offspring were good, but some clearly wronged themselves.
37:114وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَWe also bestowed Our favour on Moses and Aaron:
37:115وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِWe saved them and their people from great distress;
37:116وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُمْ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَWe helped them, so they were the ones to succeed;
37:117وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَWe gave them the Scripture that makes things clear;
37:118وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَWe guided them to the right path;
37:119وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَWe let them be praised by succeeding generations:
37:120سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ‘Peace be upon Moses and Aaron!’
37:121إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَThis is how We reward those who do good:
37:122إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَtruly they were among Our faithful servants.
37:123وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَElijah too was one of the messengers.
37:124إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَHe said to his people, ‘Have you no fear of God?
37:125أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَHow can you invoke Baal and forsake the Most Gracious Creator,
37:126ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَGod, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?’
37:127فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَbut they rejected him. They will be brought to punishment as a consequence;
37:128إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَnot so the true servants of God.
37:129وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَWe let him be praised by succeeding generations:
37:130سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَ‘Peace be to Elijah!’
37:131إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَThis is how We reward those who do good:
37:132إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَtruly he was one of Our faithful servants.
37:133وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَLot was also one of the messengers.
37:134إِذْ نَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَWe saved him and all his family-
37:135إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِى ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَexcept for an old woman who stayed behind-
37:136ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَand We destroyed the rest.
37:137وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَYou [people] pass by their ruins morning
37:138وَبِٱلَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَand night: will you not take heed?
37:139وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَJonah too was one of the messengers.
37:140إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِHe fled to the overloaded ship.
37:141فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَThey cast lots, he suffered defeat,
37:142فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ ٱلْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌand a great fish swallowed him, for he had committed blameworthy acts.
37:143فَلَوْلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَIf he had not been one of those who glorified God,
37:144لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطْنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَhe would have stayed in its belly until the Day when all are raised up,
37:145۞ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌbut We cast him out, sick, on to a barren shore,
37:146وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍand made a gourd tree grow above him.
37:147وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَWe sent him to a hundred thousand people or more.
37:148فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍThey believed, so We let them live out their lives.
37:149فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَNow [Muhammad], ask the disbelievers: is it true that your Lord has daughters, while they choose sons for themselves?
37:150أَمْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَـٰثًا وَهُمْ شَـٰهِدُونَDid We create the angels as females while they were watching?
37:151أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَNo indeed! It is one of their lies when they say,
37:152وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ‘God has begotten.’ How they lie!
37:153أَصْطَفَى ٱلْبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلْبَنِينَDid He truly choose daughters in preference to sons?
37:154مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَWhat is the matter with you? How do you form your judgements?
37:156أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ مُّبِينٌDo you perhaps have clear authority?
37:157فَأْتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَBring your scriptures, if you are telling the truth.
37:158وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَيْنَهُۥ وَبَيْنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا ۚ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ ٱلْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَThey claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be brought before Him.
37:159سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَGod is far above what they attribute to Him-
37:160إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَthe true servants of God do not do such things-
37:161فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَand neither you nor what you worship
37:162مَآ أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَـٰتِنِينَcan lure away from God any
37:163إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلْجَحِيمِexcept those who will burn in Hell.
37:164وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامٌ مَّعْلُومٌ[The angels say], ‘Every single one of us has his appointed place:
37:165وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَwe are ranged in ranks.
37:167وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَيَقُولُونَ[The disbelievers] used to say,
37:168لَوْ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكْرًا مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ‘If only we had a scripture like previous people,
37:169لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَwe would be true servants of God,’
37:170فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَyet now they reject [the Quran]. They will soon realize.
37:171وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَOur word has already been given to Our servants the messengers:
37:172إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَنصُورُونَit is they who will be helped,
37:173وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَand the ones who support Our cause will be the winners.
37:174فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍSo [Prophet] turn away from the disbelievers for a while.
37:175وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَWatch them: they will soon see.
37:176أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَDo they really wish to hasten Our punishment?
37:177فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَWhen it descends on their courtyards, how ter-rible that morning will be for those who were warned!
37:178وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ[Prophet], turn away from the disbelievers for a while.
37:179وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَWatch them: they will soon see.
37:180سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَYour Lord, the Lord of Glory, is far above what they attribute to Him.
37:181وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَPeace be upon the messengers
37:182وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَand praise be to God the Lord of all the Worlds.
