What dua did the Prophet ﷺ say in times of sadness?
The Prophet ﷺ knew sorrow himself — one year of his life is remembered as the year of sadness — and in it he turned to dua: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief” (Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan, Bukhārī 6369). In the cave he soothed his companion: “Do not grieve; God is with us” [Qur'an 9:40]. Feeling sad is no failure of faith; the Qur'an promises, “indeed, with hardship comes ease” (94:6).
