Iqra bismi rab bikal lazee khalaq
Read, in the name of your Lord who created —
This is where revelation begins, and the command has no stated object: what to read goes unnamed, and the sentence attaches the act to a name instead. Commentators noticed the pairing of reading with creation in a single breath, and the surah goes on to make the pen the instrument of teaching. Its position near the end of the muṣḥaf, first in time, is one of the plainest signs that the arrangement is not chronological.
