وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْ أَحْرَصَ ٱلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ حَيَوٰةٍ وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا۟ ۚ يَوَدُّ أَحَدُهُمْ لَوْ يُعَمَّرُ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ وَمَا هُوَ بِمُزَحْزِحِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ أَن يُعَمَّرَ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌۢ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ
Wa latajidannahum ahrasannaasi 'alaa hayaatinw wa minal lazeena ashrakoo; yawaddu ahaduhum law yu'ammaru alfa sanatinw wa maa huwa bi muzahzihihee minal 'azaabi ai yu'ammar; wallaahu baseerum bimaa ya'maloon
بلکہ ان کو تم اور لوگوں سے زندگی کے کہیں حریص دیکھو گے، یہاں تک کہ مشرکوں سے بھی۔ ان میں سے ہر ایک یہی خواہش کرتا ہے کہ کاش وہ ہزار برس جیتا رہے، مگر اتنی لمبی عمر اس کو مل بھی جائے تو اسے عذاب سے تو نہیں چھڑا سکتی۔ اور جو کام یہ کرتے ہیں، خدا ان کو دیکھ رہا ہے
You will find them the greediest of people for life — greedier even than those who ascribe partners to God. Each of them would love to live a thousand years, yet such a long life would not spare him from the punishment. And God sees what they do.
