Surah Al-Fajr — 89:22

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا

Wa jaaa'a Rabbuka wal malaku saffan saffaa

and your Lord comes, and the angels, rank upon rank,

Reflection

Two words in this passage double themselves: dakkan dakkā for the pounding of the earth just before, and ṣaffan ṣaffā here for the ranks, so the Arabic repeats in sound what it describes. Commentators divided over the coming — some read it as the arrival of God's decree and command, others affirmed the wording and declined to ask how. Either way the ranks are drawn up, and what stands opposite them is one person who loved wealth.
