Surah Al-Haqqah — 69:17

Wal malaku 'alaaa arjaaa'ihaa; wa yahmilu 'Arsha Rabbika fawqahum yawma'izin samaaniyah

The angels will stand at its edges, and on that day eight will bear the throne of your Lord above them.

Reflection

Eight arrives with no noun attached to it, and commentators have supplied eight angels, eight ranks, or eight groups without the question being settled. Arjāʾ means the sides or outer rims of a thing: the sky has torn open two lines earlier, and the angels take their stations along what is left of its edges.
