Huwal lazee khalaqakum faminkum kaafirunw wa min kum mu'min ; wallaahu bimaa ta'maloona Baseer
It is he who created you: among you is one who denies and among you is one who believes, and God sees all that you do.
Creation and the division of humanity sit in one sentence here, with the join between them left unstated, and that silence is what made the verse a standing proof text for opposing readings of destiny and human choice. The two are named in the singular, a denier and a believer, so the split is drawn person by person. The sentence closes on what people do.
