أَفَمِنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
Afamin hazal hadeesi ta'jaboon
Do you marvel at this account?
Astonishment is what the objectors are recorded as feeling elsewhere, at 50:2 and 38:5, where the message strikes them as an extraordinary thing, and here that reaction is put back to them as a question. This second-person form of the verb appears at this verse alone. Hadha al-hadith, the phrase for what they are hearing, is used of the Qur'an three further times, and every one of those passages has someone turning away from it.
