يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ وَٱخْشَوْا۟ يَوْمًا لَّا يَجْزِى وَالِدٌ عَن وَلَدِهِۦ وَلَا مَوْلُودٌ هُوَ جَازٍ عَن وَالِدِهِۦ شَيْـًٔا ۚ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ ۖ فَلَا تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكُم بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْغَرُورُ
Yaaa ayyuhan naasuttaqoo Rabbakum wakhshaw Yawmal laa yajzee waalidun 'anw waladihee wa laa mawloodun huwa jaazin 'anw waalidihee shai'aa; innaa wa'dal laahi haqqun falaa taghurran nakumul hayaatud dunyaa wa laa yaghur rannakum billaahil gharoon
O ludzie! Bójcie się waszego Pana! Obawiajcie się dnia, kiedy żaden ojciec nie będzie mógł nic uczynić dla swego syna ani też żadne dziecko nie będzie mogło nic uczynić dla swego ojca. Zaiste, obietnica Boga jest prawdą! I niech was nie zwodzi życie tego świata, i niech nie zwodzi was co do Boga ten, który jest wielkim zwodzicielem. Zaprawdę, u Boga jest wiedza o Godzinie! On spuszcza ulewę. On wie, co jest w łonach. Lecz nie wie dusza, co zyska jutro, i nie wie dusza, na jakiej umrze ziemi.
O people, be mindful of your Lord, and fear a day when no parent will avail their child, nor any child avail their parent, in anything at all. God's promise is true, so do not let the life of this world deceive you, and do not let the deceiver deceive you about God.
Arabic names the two parties by the single act that binds them, one who begot and one who was born, so the tie is stated at its most physical exactly where the day is named on which it settles nothing. The warning then doubles one verb and hands it two subjects in turn, worldly life and then al-gharur, the deceiver, whom some read as a name for Satan and others as whatever happens to be doing the deceiving.
