Surah Al-A'la — الأعلى

Chapter 87 of the Qur'an · “The Most High” · 19 verses · revealed in Makkah

1. 87:1 سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى [Prophet], glorify the name of your Lord the Most High,
2. 87:2 ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ who created [all things] in due proportion;
3. 87:3 وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ who determined their destinies and guided them;
4. 87:4 وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ who brought out the green pasture
5. 87:5 فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ then made it dark debris.
6. 87:6 سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ [Prophet], We shall teach you [the Quran] and you will not forget––
7. 87:7 إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ unless God wishes; He knows both what is open and what is hidden––
8. 87:8 وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ We shall show you the easy way.
9. 87:9 فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ So remind, if reminding will help.
10. 87:10 سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ Those who stand in awe of God will heed the reminder,
11. 87:11 وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى but it will be ignored by the most wicked,
12. 87:12 ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ who will enter the Great Fire,
13. 87:13 ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ where they will neither die nor live.
14. 87:14 قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ Prosperous are those who purify themselves,
15. 87:15 وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ remember the name of their Lord, and pray.
16. 87:16 بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا Yet you [people] prefer the life of this world,
17. 87:17 وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ even though the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
18. 87:18 إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَفِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ All this is in the earlier scriptures,
19. 87:19 صُحُفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ the scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
