Surah Al-Inshiqaq — الإنشقاق

Chapter 84 of the Qur'an · “The Sundering” · 25 verses · revealed in Makkah

  1. 84:1 إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ When the sky is ripped apart,
  2. 84:2 وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ obeying its Lord as it rightly must,
  3. 84:3 وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ when the earth is levelled out,
  4. 84:4 وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ casts out its contents, and becomes empty,
  5. 84:5 وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ obeying its Lord as it rightly must,
  6. 84:6 يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ you humans, toiling laboriously towards your Lord, will meet Him:
  7. 84:7 فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ whoever is given his record in his right hand
  8. 84:8 فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا will have an easy reckoning
  9. 84:9 وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا and return to his people well pleased,
  10. 84:10 وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ but whoever is given his record from behind his back
  11. 84:11 فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًا will cry out for destruction––
  12. 84:12 وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا he will burn in the blazing Fire.
  13. 84:13 إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا He used to live among his people well pleased.
  14. 84:14 إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ He thought he would never return [to his Lord]––
  15. 84:15 بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًا indeed he will! His Lord was watching him.
  16. 84:16 فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ I swear by the glow of sunset,
  17. 84:17 وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ by the night and what it covers,
  18. 84:18 وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ by the full moon,
  19. 84:19 لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ you will progress from stage to stage.
  20. 84:20 فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ So why do they not believe?
  21. 84:21 وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩ Why, when the Quran is read to them, do they not prostrate themselves [to God]?
  22. 84:22 بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ No! The disbelievers reject the Quran––
  23. 84:23 وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ God knows best what they keep hidden inside––
  24. 84:24 فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ so give them news of a painful torment.
  25. 84:25 إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ But those who believe and do good deeds will have a never-ending reward.
