فِى عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةٍۭ
Fee 'amadim-mu mad dadah

The surah closes on architecture, having opened with someone amassing wealth and counting it over: the man who piled things up ends inside a structure built around him. ʿAmad has been read two ways — pillars of fire drawn out to great length, or the bars and stakes that fasten shut the enclosure named just before. Mumaddada, stretched out, is the surah's final word, and it measures duration as much as shape.
