Surah Al-Insan — 76:26

Wa minal laili fasjud lahoo wa sabbihhu lailan taweelaa

And in the night, prostrate to him, and glorify him through the long night.

Reflection

Patience was commanded two verses earlier, and this is where the resource for it is located: the night, when nobody is watching and nothing external sustains the effort. The instruction escalates from remembrance at the two ends of the day to prostration and a long stretch of praise, raising the bodily cost each time. The verse that follows names the opposite habit, an attachment to whatever is over quickly.
