فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةً سِيٓـَٔتْ وُجُوهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَقِيلَ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَدَّعُونَ
Falaammaa ra-awhu zulfatan seee'at wujoohul lazeena kafaroo wa qeela haazal lazee kuntum bihee tadda'oon
سو جب وہ دیکھ لیں گے کہ وہ (وعدہ) قریب آگیا تو کافروں کے منہ برے ہوجائیں گے اور (ان سے) کہا جائے گا کہ یہ وہی ہے جس کے تم خواستگار تھے
But when they see it drawing near, the faces of those who denied will be stricken, and it will be said, "This is what you were calling for."
The scene answers the question asked two verses earlier, when they demanded to know the date. The verb in the closing clause comes from the root for calling and asking, so what arrives is handed to them as a request granted, the one petition of theirs that receives an answer. Zulfatan places it at close range, near enough to be read on a face, which is where surah al-Mulk leaves them.
