Surah At-Tahrim — 66:2

Qad faradal laahu lakum tahillata aymaanikum; wallaahu mawlaakum wa huwal'aleemul hakeem

God has ordained for you the release from your oaths. God is your protector, and he is the All-Knowing, the Wise.

Reflection

The address widens at this point: the previous line speaks to one man in the singular, and here it turns to a plural you, so a private matter is answered with something the whole community can use. How an oath is released is set out at 5:89, and commentators differ on which kinds of oath the release here covers. Naming God the protector immediately afterward keeps the release from reading as an escape.
