سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَسْتَغْفَرْتَ لَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ لَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ
Sawaaa'un 'alaihim as taghfarta lahum am lam tastaghfir lahum lany yaghfiral laahu lahum; innal laaha laa yahdil qawmal faasiqeen
تم ان کے لئے مغفرت مانگو یا نہ مانگو ان کے حق میں برابر ہے۔ خدا ان کو ہرگز نہ بخشے گا۔ بےشک خدا نافرمانوں کو ہدایت نہیں دیا کرتا
It is all the same for them whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not — God will not forgive them. Indeed, God does not guide a people who break faith.
Surah 9 puts the same alternative to the Prophet with a number attached, seventy, so that the futility cannot be read as a matter of insufficient effort. Here the choice stands bare, and what is named instead is fisq — a departure from a bond one stood inside, which the lexicographers illustrate with a ripe date breaking out of its skin.
