Surah Al-Fath — 48:1

إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُّبِينًا

Innaa fatahnaa laka Fatham Mubeenaa

(اے محمدﷺ) ہم نے تم کو فتح دی۔ فتح بھی صریح وصاف

Indeed, we have granted you a clear victory,

Reflection

The victory named here is the treaty signed at Hudaybiyyah, which the companions had just experienced as a setback: they were turned back from Mecca without performing the pilgrimage, on terms that read as concessions. Fath means an opening before it means a conquest, and the surah takes its name from the word. What the verse asks of its first hearers is to accept a description of events that contradicted what they had felt.
