Surah Az-Zukhruf — 43:25

Fantaqamnaa minhum fanzur kaifa kaana 'aaqibatul mukazzibeen

So we took retribution from them. See, then, what became of those who denied the truth.

Reflection

The argument from ancestry is closed here by force, and the surah answers it in the next breath with a counter-example: Ibrahim, who disowned exactly what his father worshipped. Intiqām is a verb the Qur'an reserves for God, never a course commended to people. The imperative ending the verse is addressed to the hearer, putting past outcomes forward as something to be looked at rather than merely told.
