Surah Ghafir — 40:27

Wa qaala Moosaaaa innee 'uztu bi Rabbee wa Rabbikum min kulli mutakabbiril laayu'minu bi Yawmil Hisaab

And Musa said, "I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the day of reckoning."

Reflection

Musa answers a death threat with the language of refuge, and the verb sits in the perfect tense — the refuge is already taken rather than newly claimed under pressure. Naming God as Pharaoh's Lord as well as his own strips the king of the divinity he asserts, and the address stays direct throughout. The danger is identified by trait instead of by name: arrogance joined to disbelief in a day of reckoning, which the surah goes on to play out inside Pharaoh's own household.
