Surah Al-Isra — 17:72

Wa man kaana fee haaziheee a'maa fahuwa fil aakhirati a'maa wa adallu sabeelaa

Whoever is blind in this life will be blind in the hereafter, and further astray from the path.

Reflection

The verse just before has people reading their own record, placed in the right hand, and this one turns to sight of a different order. Commentators divided over what the blindness names, the inability to see God's signs during this life or the loss of the way out of the next. Grammarians argued as well over the comparative that follows, since Arabic does not usually build comparatives on words for physical defects.
