Surah An-Nahl — 16:5

Wal an 'amaa khalaqahaa; lakum feehaa dif'unw wa manaafi'u wa minhaa taakuloon

And the livestock — he created them for you. In them is warmth and many benefits, and from them you eat.

Reflection

Difʾ, the warmth named first, occurs just this once in the whole Qur'an: it means the warmth of what is worn, wool and hair and hide turned into covering. The placement matters, since the verse just before describes the human being formed from a drop and turning argumentative, and what answers that is an inventory rather than a rebuttal. The list then widens from use to beauty and finally to what is only pleasant to own.
