Surah Al-Hijr — 15:8

Maa nunazzilul malaaa'i kata illaa bilhaqqi wa maa kaanooo izam munzareen

we do not send down the angels except with the truth, and then they would be granted no reprieve.

Reflection

The answer treats the demand for angels as a demand to bring the deadline forward: an open descent of angels belongs to the moment of decision, and the line closes with reprieve refused. That same word for reprieve returns later in this surah, at verse 37, where Iblis asks for it and is granted it until an appointed day. What is withheld from the people demanding proof is exactly what their adversary receives.
