وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ
Wa maa huwa 'alal ghaibi bidaneen
Peygamber, görülmeyenler hakkında söylediklerinden ötürü töhmet altında tutulamaz.
And he withholds nothing of the unseen.
Two canonical readings turn on one letter here: with ḍād the word means grudging, so the Prophet keeps back nothing of what he is shown; with ẓāʾ it means suspect, so his report of the unseen is above doubt. Early reciters transmitted both, and the defense rests either on his generosity or on his credibility. The surrounding verses are answering charges that had been made against him.
