Surah Al-A'raf — 7:184

Awalam yatafakkaroo maa bisaahibihim min jinnah; in huwa illaa nazeerum mubeen

Have they not reflected? There is no madness in their companion — he is only a clear warner.

Reflection

Their companion is ṣāḥibihim in the Arabic, a man they had kept company with for years, and the reply to the charge of madness rests on nothing more than that long acquaintance. Jinna names possession rather than illness, the accusation being that something unseen had seized him, so the demand made of them is to think: anyone who had watched him closely already had his answer.
