يَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّونَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُونَ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ
Ya'lamu maa fis samaawaati wal ardi wa ya'lamu maa tusirroona wa maa tu'linoon; wallaahu 'Aleemum bizaatis sudoor
Göklerde ve yerde olanları bilir; gizlediklerinizi de açığa vurduklarınızı da bilir; Allah, kalblerde olanı da bilendir.
God knows what is in the heavens and the earth, and he knows what you conceal and what you make known. And God knows what lies within the heart.
The scale narrows across the verse: the heavens and the earth first, then what you say aloud or keep quiet, then the inside of a chest. Dhat al-sudur reaches further than the word thoughts allows, since it names what the breast actually contains, its own substance. In a surah called al-Taghabun, the mutual loss and gain of the last day, that reach is what makes the reckoning it describes possible.
