Surah Al-Hadid — 57:11

man zal lazee yuqridul laaha qardan hasanan fa yudaa'ifahoo lahoo wa lahooo ajrun kareem

Who will lend to God a beautiful loan, that he may multiply it for them, and they shall have a generous reward?

Reflection

Qard comes from a root meaning to cut off, so a loan in Arabic is a piece cut from what you hold and handed over. The owner of everything is the one asking to borrow, and the question form leaves room where a command could have stood. The surah has just ranked those who gave before the victory above those who gave once it was safe.
