وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
Wa tadhakoona wa laa tabkoon
Gülüyorsunuz... Ağlamıyorsunuz.
and you laugh and do not weep,
Laughter is read here as a response to news, and the news is what the surah has just delivered: the hour approaching, and the ruins of nations who heard the same account. Samidun in the next verse occurs nowhere else in the Qur'an, and early readers glossed it variously as amusement, as singing, and as standing about heedlessly. Two verses on, the surah ends by calling for prostration, which is where the sequence has been heading.
