وَأَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَمُهَيْمِنًا عَلَيْهِ ۖ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَهُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ عَمَّا جَآءَكَ مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ ۚ لِكُلٍّ جَعَلْنَا مِنكُمْ شِرْعَةً وَمِنْهَاجًا ۚ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَكُمْ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً وَلَـٰكِن لِّيَبْلُوَكُمْ فِى مَآ ءَاتَىٰكُمْ ۖ فَٱسْتَبِقُوا۟ ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ ۚ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ جَمِيعًا فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ
Wa anzalnaa ilaikal Kitaaba bilhaqqi musaddiqallimaa baina yadaihi minal Kitaabi wa muhaiminan 'alaihi fahkum bainahum bimaa anzalal laahu wa laa tattabi ahwaaa'ahum 'ammaa jaaa'aka minal haqq; likullin ja'alnaa minkum shir'atanw wa minhaajaa; wa law shaaa'al laahu laja'alakum ummatanw waahidatanw wa laakil liyabluwakum fee maa aataakum fastabiqul khairaat; ilal laahi arji'ukum jamee'an fayunab bi'ukum bimaa kuntum feehi takhtalifoon
Kuran'ı, önce gelen Kitap'ı tasdik ederek ve ona şahid olarak gerçekle sana indirdik. Allah'ın indirdiği ile aralarında hükmet; gerçek olan sana gelmiş bulunduğuna göre, onların heveslerine uyma! Her biriniz için bir yol ve bir yöntem kıldık; eğer Allah dileseydi sizi bir tek ümmet yapardı, fakat bu, verdikleriyle sizi denemesi içindir; o halde iyiliklere koşuşun, hepinizin dönüşü Allah'adır. O, ayrılığa düştüğünüz şeyleri size bildirir.
And we have sent down to you the Book with the truth, confirming the scripture that came before it and standing as a guardian over it. So judge between them by what God has sent down, and do not follow their desires, turning away from the truth that has come to you. For each of you we have appointed a law and a clear way. Had God willed, he would have made you one community, but he tests you through what he has given you. So race toward what is good. To God is the return of you all, and he will then make clear to you the matters in which you differed.
Plurality of law is stated here as intended: each community was given its own shir'a and minhāj, a legal way and an open road, and a single undivided community is named only as something God could have willed instead. Muhaymin, the word for this Book's relation to earlier scripture, carries guardian, witness and arbiter at once, and commentators have leaned on each of the three. The instruction that follows is competition in good works, with the difference itself left to be resolved at the return.
