وَلَأُضِلَّنَّهُمْ وَلَأُمَنِّيَنَّهُمْ وَلَـَٔامُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُبَتِّكُنَّ ءَاذَانَ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ وَلَـَٔامُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُغَيِّرُنَّ خَلْقَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يَتَّخِذِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ وَلِيًّا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ خَسِرَ خُسْرَانًا مُّبِينًا
Wa la udillannahum wa la umanni yannnahum wa la aamurannahum fala yubat tikunna aazaanal lan'aami wa la aamurannahum fala yughai yirunna khalqal laah; wa mai yattakhizish Shaitaana waliyyam mmin doonil laahi faqad khasira khusraanam mubeena
Onlar Allah'ı bırakıp tanrıçalara taparlar ve: "Elbette senin kullarından belli bir takımı alıp onları saptıracağım, onlara kuruntu kurduracağım, develerin kulaklarını yarmalarını emredeceğim, Allah'ın yarattığını değiştirmelerini emredeceğim" diyen, Allah'ın lanet ettiği azgın şeytana taparlar. Allah'ı bırakıp şeytanı dost edinen şüphesiz açıktan açığa kayba uğramıştır.
"And I will surely lead them astray, and stir up false hopes in them, and command them to slit the ears of cattle, and command them to deform God's creation." Whoever takes Satan as a protector instead of God has suffered a clear and ruinous loss.
The four verbs are Satan's own, spoken in his voice, and they run from the inward to the outward: misdirection, then false expectation, then two commands that reach the herd and the body. Slitting a camel's ear marked it as pledged to a deity, one of the customs named at 5:103. What the deforming of creation covers has been argued since the earliest commentaries, from bodily alteration to altering the way God set for people, and both readings are held.
