Surah Az-Zumar — 39:37

وَمَن يَهْدِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن مُّضِلٍّ ۗ أَلَيْسَ ٱللَّهُ بِعَزِيزٍ ذِى ٱنتِقَامٍ

Wa mai yahdil laahu famalahoo mim mudlil; alai sal laahu bi'azeezin zin tiqaam

Allah'ın doğru yola eriştirdiğini de saptıracak yoktur. Allah, güçlü olan, öç alabilen değil midir?

And whoever God guides, none can lead astray. Is God not mighty, the master of retribution?

Reflection

This verse completes a mirror begun in the one before it, the halves inverting each other clause for clause, each closing on a question that admits a single answer. The setting is intimidation: opponents were threatening the Prophet with the vengeance of the powers they invoked, and dhū intiqām answers by relocating retribution to where it actually rests. The divine name chosen here is the one their threat had borrowed.
