أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُّبِينٌ
Awalam yaral insaanu annaa khalaqnaahu min nutfatin fa-izaa huwa khaseemum mubeen
İnsan kendisini bir nutfeden yarattığımızı görmez mi ki hemen apaçık bir hasım kesilir ve kendi yaratılışını unutur da; "Çürümüş kemikleri kim yaratacak" diyerek, Bize misal vermeye kalkar?
Does the human being not see that we created him from a drop of fluid? Yet there he is, an open adversary.
Khasim is a courtroom word, the opposing party in a dispute, and mubin carries both senses of bayan: obvious, and articulate. So the drop of fluid has become an eloquent litigant, and the verse immediately after shows him doing exactly that. Fa-idha compresses an entire human life into the gap between the two clauses.
