Surah Luqman — 31:9

خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۖ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقًّا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

Khaalideena feeha wa'dal laahi haqqaa; wa Huwal 'Azeezul Hakeem

İnanıp yararlı iş işleyenler için, Allah'ın vadi gereğince temelli kalacakları nimet cennetleri vardır. O; güçlüdür, hakim'dir.

to remain there forever — a true promise from God, and he is the Mighty, the Wise.

Reflection

This promise answers a purchase made at 31:6, where a man buys up idle talk to draw people off the path; the believers receive speech of the opposite kind, a waʿd pledged by God and marked ḥaqq, true. The closing name al-Ḥakīm belongs to a thread through the surah, which opens on the wise Book at 31:2 and three verses from here has Luqman given ḥikma, so what he receives is first named as an attribute of God.
