ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا ٱلنُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْمُضْغَةَ عِظَـٰمًا فَكَسَوْنَا ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ لَحْمًا ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُ خَلْقًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ
Summa khalaqnan nutfata 'alaqatan fakhalaqnal 'alaqata mudghatan fakhalaq nal mudghata 'izaaman fakasawnal 'izaama lahman summa anshaanaahu khalqan aakhar; fatabaarakal laahu ahsanul khaaliqeen
Sonra nutfeyi kan pıhtısına çevirdik, kan pıhtısını bir çiğnemlik et yaptık, bir çiğnemlik etten kemikler yarattık, kemiklere de et giydirdik. Sonra onu başka bir yaratık yaptık: Biçim verenlerin en güzeli olan Allah ne uludur!
Then we made the drop into a clinging clot, and we made the clot into a lump of flesh, and we made the lump into bones, and we clothed the bones with flesh, and then we brought it forth as another creation. So blessed is God, the best of creators.
The verb changes twice as the sequence runs. Three stages are made with khalaqa, then the bones are clothed rather than made, and the last stage takes ansha'a, a verb for raising something into being. Khalqan akhar, another creation, is the point of dispute: the entering of the spirit, the emergence of a being that speaks and reasons, or the birth itself, and the passage names the change without naming its content.
