Surah Al-Baqarah — 2:22

Allazee ja'ala lakumul arda firaashanw wassamaaa'a binaaa 'anw wa anzala minassamaaa'i maaa'an fa akhraja bihee minas samaraati rizqal lakum falaa taj'aloo lillaahi andaadanw wa antum ta'lamoon

Gökten su indirip onunla size rızık olmak üzere ürünler meydana getirdi; artık Allah'a, bile bile eş koşmayın.

who made the earth a resting place for you and the sky a canopy, and sent down water from the sky and brought forth fruits with it as provision for you. So do not set up rivals to God when you know better.

Reflection

The two images are domestic: firāsh is bedding spread out to lie on, binā' is a built structure, so the cosmos is described in the vocabulary of a house prepared for someone expected. This supplies the grounds for the command in the verse before, the first command in the text addressed to humanity at large. Andād means peers or equals, and the closing clause makes the charge one of acting against knowledge already held.
