۞ لَّيْسَ ٱلْبِرَّ أَن تُوَلُّوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ قِبَلَ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱلْبِرَّ مَنْ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ وَءَاتَى ٱلْمَالَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ ذَوِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينَ وَٱبْنَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَٱلسَّآئِلِينَ وَفِى ٱلرِّقَابِ وَأَقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَى ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَٱلْمُوفُونَ بِعَهْدِهِمْ إِذَا عَـٰهَدُوا۟ ۖ وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ فِى ٱلْبَأْسَآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ وَحِينَ ٱلْبَأْسِ ۗ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا۟ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ
Laisal birra an tuwalloo wujoohakum qibalal mashriqi walmaghribi wa laakinnal birra man aamana billaahi wal yawmil aakhiri wal malaaa 'ikati wal kitaabi wan nabiyyeena wa aatalmaala 'alaa hubbihee zawilqurbaa walyataa maa walmasaakeena wabnas sabeeli wassaaa'ileena wa firriqaabi wa aqaamas salaata wa aataz zakaata walmoofoona bi ahdihim izaa 'aahadoo wasaabireena fil baasaaa'i waddarraaa'i wa heenal baas; ulaaa'ikal lazeena sadaqoo wa ulaaa 'ika humul muttaqoon
Yüzlerinizi doğudan yana ve batıdan yana çevirmeniz iyi olmak demek değildir; Lakin iyi olan, Allah'a, ahiret gününe, meleklere, Kitap'a, peygamberlere inanan, O'nun sevgisiyle, yakınlarına, yetimlere, düşkünlere, yolculara, yoksullara ve köleler uğrunda mal veren, namaz kılan, zekat veren ve ahidleştiklerinde ahidlerine vefa gösterenler, zorda, darda ve savaş alanında sabredenlerdir. İşte onlar doğru olanlardır ve sakınanlar ancak onlardır.
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east and the west. Righteousness is one who believes in God, the last day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets; who gives wealth, despite loving it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, and those who ask, and for freeing those in bondage; who establishes prayer and gives the purifying alms; who fulfill their pledge when they make a pledge; and who are steadfast in hardship, in suffering, and in times of peril. These are the ones who are truthful, and these are the people of God-consciousness.
Arabic makes righteousness a person here rather than an act, and the grammar is rough enough that early commentators supplied an implied word to smooth it. The case endings shift when the steadfast are named, which grammarians read as singling that group out. Coming after the long quarrel over the qibla, the verse moves the question from where you face to what you do with your money and your word.
