يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
Yaaa ayyuhal laazeena aamanus ta'eenoo bissabri was Salaah; innal laaha ma'as-saabireen
Ey İnananlar! Sabır ve namazla yardım dileyin. Allah, muhakkak ki sabredenlerle beraberdir.
You who believe, seek help through patience and prayer. God is with those who are patient.
The same pairing appeared earlier in this surah addressed to the Children of Israel, and here it is given again to the community being formed, which is how much of al-Baqara works: an instruction reissued to new hearers. Sabr comes from a root meaning to bind or hold fast, closer to keeping a position than to waiting quietly. The verses immediately after name the testing, fear and hunger and loss, so the equipment is handed over before the trial is described.
